SWEET AS BUDDHA

The sweets and candy that the pilgrims offer to Buddha's statue, was that gave the name to my exhibition of photos that was taken in 2008 in McLeod-Dharamsala India, a few months before the Beijing Olympics. At this time, the Tibetan communities around India and worldwide were set in a creative and protestive fire in order to keep reminding to the world the situation that their native land is in, under China's occupation. My exhibition wants to communicate that the Buddhist Philosophy and way of life, as i experienced it in my 3 weeks in McLeod, meets the joy and playfulness of life. That there is something very interesting that developes when the strict cultural frame of "the roof of the world" meets the frame of a society that has opened to consumerism and technology according to the western ways of life. Between those two different aspects of life, the spirit of Tibet and Buddhism bridges meditation with playfulness, the search for the human core with technology.

Τα γλυκά που αφήνουν οι πιστοί στο άγαλμα του Βούδα έδωσαν το όνομα στην εκθεση αυτή η οποία αποτελείται από 20 φωτογραφίες που τραβήχτηκαν το 2008 στο McLeod-Dharamsala της Ινδίας, όπου διαμένει ο Δαλά'ι' Λάμα, λίγους μήνες πριν τους Ολυμπιακούς του Πεκίνου, εποχή όπου οι ανά τον κόσμο εξόριστες θιβετάνικες κοινότητες βρισκόντουσαν σε δημιουργικό αναβρασμό για να υπενθυμήσουν στον κόσμο την κατάσταση που επικρατεί στην πατρίδα τους. Αυτό που θέλει να επικοινωνήσει η έκθεση είναι πως η φιλοσοφία του Βουδισμού, που πρεσβεύεται από τον Θιβετάνικο λαό, συναντιέται με την χαρά της καθημερινής ζωής. Πως από το αυστηρό πολιτισμικό πλαίσιο της "στέγης του κόσμου", στο καταναλωτικό πλαίσιο μιας κοινωνίας που αναπτύσεται με τα πρότυπα της δύσης, η κοσμοθεωρία που φέρνει το Θιβέτ στον κόσμο, γεφυρώνει τον διαλογισμό με το παιχνίδι.
