My shadow is casting on the altar of the 11th century chapel of Michael and i'm becoming He. I'm standing in front of Alfonso Enrique's statue and i'm connecting with his gesture of rising sword. Since i was born Greek, i have been to a lot of historical places. But i grow a lot of respect for Alfonso and his city, which is a Unesco world heritage monument. My respect is not only for the sword that won the battle from which he gave birth to Portugal ("Aqui Nasceu Portugal") but also to the spirit and attitude of his people, his descendants, that respect and preserve their country, it's beauty, nature and tradition. They have all the warthm of heart and hospitality that you can find in a Mediterranean culture but not the chaos and dirt that sometimes goes with it. And as they are preparing for the 2012 European Capital, i hope that i will return to say hi to Alfonso and his sword of integrity.
