06 Sept 2012, Up Goes The Squirel

One of the residents of Osho Afroz, are the squirels that live and feed of the oak nd wild peanut trees. More likely to see them, during meditating outside. That's when silence and stilness around gives them courage to appear. I've been wanting to take a closer look at them but couldn't, until that day. While the dinning area was emptying after breakfast, i found myself sitting alone there, editing the photos from the festival. Suddenly i heard a sharp, metalic repeating noise, coming somewhere from inside the wild peanut tree at the smoking temple. It sounded like one that some hawks do, a chainlike sound. I turned and after a few seconds i spotted the squirel on the trunk of the tree. My camera was with me and i started moving very slowly to taking photos of it. Surely it has spotted me too but to my surprise it wouldn't run away. After i had shot some photos from where i was seating, i took the chance to start moving towards it. Normally it would escape in a whirlwind. To my astonishment, it allowed me to aproach as much as 2 meters. It seemed as if it was under a power greater than it's natural fear. It was making sounds and small jumps on the same spot. Maybe it was matting season and it was just driven by hormones. There was for sure another one hidden around. Maybe it was just overwhelmed by the love that is spread around the place! Whatever reason, it was wonderfull to come close to a creature like this. Not only because it's an amazing animal. But also because you're in an environment where you know that there are hidden aspects of it as well as the obvious one. And then you get the chance to meet this hidden life. This is beautifull, it opens new doors and it brings you in the moment.
