...From the day before the celebration, people from all the island start on foot, walking in the cool of night to get to Mantamados. For two days all the roads and paths of the island are tread by people on foot or on horses. The monastery gets very crowded, one have to stand in line for at least 30' to get to the image. The area around is covered with tents for those who come from around the country and stay overnight and with the openair market. The zenith of the celebration is the sacrifice of the bull. After the shot that brings the animal down, its throat is cut for the blood to flow. There are people who consider this blood as having some supernatural power, so they crowd to get some, even as the animal still shakes...(continued in the next post)
έχω πάει πολλές φορές στον ταξιάρχη καθώς ζούσα στην μυτιλήνη 4 χρόνια, αλλά δεν ήθελα ποτέ να πάω στην σφαγή του ζώου..δεν ξέρω καθόλου την ιστορία του εθίμου. οι φωτογραφίες κυρίως οι ασπρόμαυρες μου άρεσαν πολύ και κάποιες είναι πολύ καλές μου μετέφεραν το κλίμα της στιγμής εκεί. καλή δύναμη
