23 May 2008, Tibetan Olympics Long Distance Run Day

The day came with the best conditions for the Long Distance Run. No rain, sunny with clouds creating a cool atmosphere. Nevertheless it was a difficult run, as one would expect in a mountain terain like this. The athletes met at Dalai Lama's home, the main temple. From there the run started straight uphill, to Dal lake and back-8klm- for women and to Nadinn village and back-10klm- for men. The athletes would have to run the whole race on ashpalt road. I guess that the abundant clear oxygen of the mountains would make even harder the crossing with riksos and dirty exhaustion cars. While following the race for a while on beloved's French volunteer Nacera Norton bike, until we looped back to the temple to wait on the finish, i noticed that they were all running with a smile on their faces. Kalsang Lobsang finish first for men and Dhartso Kyi for women. But all of the athletes were cheered like a winner.
